Cheers (Drink to That): Rihanna releases a weekend drinking anthem

Cheers (Drink to That) is the next single taken from Rihanna‘s fifth studio album Loud.
And yes, you’re right, that’s Avril Lavigne you hear doing the “yeah yeah yeah yeah” which is sampled from her 2002 hit song I’m With You.

Again, I am celebrating the fact that the song isn’t about sex, so yay! Judging by the lyrics, Cheers (Drink to That) is a party-drinking song. But it’s not about drinking til you piss your pants, it’s a more celebratory kind of drinking that the song is about. You know, the kind of drinking that’s just about fun without the sob story.

Even if it’s not a club-thumping song, the song is catchy and makes you want to sing along as if you were in a drinking session with everyone else. Cheers (Drink to That) is successful as a TGIF-style slow rock drinking anthem with a tropical island vibe. And come on, who wouldn’t love that Avril Lavigne sample? Everybody come “yeah yeah” with me, and oh yeah drink to that. Oh, and cheers to the weekend (it is Friday today).
