Noel Cabangon – Tuloy ang Byahe (Album Review)

Covering old songs has become a trend the past few years. Artists and recording labels have been rehashing and reviving songs. Some believe that this is because those songs have worked in the past and that there is little reason that they should not work today. And then there are those who treat song covers as an art form. In his latest album Tuloy ang Byahe, Noel Cabangon continues to prove that he is one of the latter.

Noel has chosen to cover songs from a wide range — from the uber-popular and much-covered Ryan Cayabyab classic Tuwing Umuulan at Kapiling Ka to songs that virtually nobody of the today’s younger generation has heard of like Lagi na Lang and Joey’s Theme (Umaga na Naman). Noel has also pushed for two songs in a regional language to be included, namely the Visayan folk song Usahay and an original composition Sika Laeng Iti Biag.
Tracks I liked: Kahit Na, Iduyan Mo, Malayo Pa ang Umaga, Pumapatak ang Ulan.
