Eyes on the Throne: DJ Nix Damn P offers a mixtape tribute to Kanye West and Jay-Z

Just recently, two of the biggest names in rap in the US, Kanye West and Jay-Z, decided to collaborate and came out with the studio album Watch the Throne. Tracks in the album included collaborations with other artists like Frank Ocean, Beyonce, Otis Redding, and Mr Hudson.

With his mixtape Eyes on the Throne, Filipino DJ Nix Damn P pays tribute to the two rappers who reignited his passion for hiphop. Eyes on the Throne seems to be lighter and easier to listen to, especially if you’re a casual hiphop music listener. Furthermore, EOTT also attempts to weave the story of Watch the Throne while serving background stories and sound bytes related to the recording of the album.

Truth be known, being more of an MOR music listener, I wasn’t really expecting to be blown away by DJ Nix Damn P‘s creation. But just within the first 6 minutes of Eyes on the Throne, I found myself listening, not casually, but really closely to the mixtape. I found the transitions very natural, seamless, easy, and unstrained. My mind usually talks back between tracks when I listen to albums and mixtapes, but listening to Eyes on the Throne proves to be quite a different experience for me. It’s like my mind just sits back as it leisurely enjoys and processes whatever the mixtape serves my ears.
