Kaligta remakes early 90s hit “I Will Be Here for You”

Posted on: June 27, 2012 under Music, OPM Just As Good

Kaligta

Kaligta has released the music video to I Will Be Here for You, the carrier single of the self-titled debut album. The song was originally done by American Christian artist Michael W. Smith in 1992.

Now the song is given new life by four guys, namely Michael Artita (vocals/guitar), Sherman Tupas (bass/vocals), John Michael Dino (drums) and Arnold Artita (lead guitar). Together known as the band Kaligta, these men are on a mission to inspire people with their music. Michael even goes on to say, “We really want to inspire rather than just perform.”

Kaligta was one of the top five finalists in the 2010 Soundskool Band Search, a competition that went through 3,000 entries from colleges and universities all around the Philippines. Although Kaligta didn’t win, they gained the necessary experiences to realize that rocking out means hard work too. Their stint at Soundskool had them face to face with the country’s top music artists, some of whom even mentored them. “Naturuan kami ng mga sikat na artists… (after Soundskool), feeling namin kahit papaano’y nag-improve kami,” Arnold shares.

Their music is a blend of Christian music with pop rock and alternative sensibilities. The group doesn’t think that being an admittedly Christian band would be a deterrent for people to listen to them. “Music is universal,” Michael says. “You don’t listen to music because of religion. You listen to the music.”
