David Archuleta - Everybody Hurts

David Archuleta has released the music video for his version of “Everybody Hurts.” The song comes from his fifth studio album BEGIN.

Everybody Hurts” was originally released as a 1993 single from American rock band R.E.M. In the liner notes of the band’s album In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988–2003, the R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck wrote that “the reason the lyrics are so atypically straightforward is because it was aimed at teenagers.”

According to the description of the Youtube video, David performed the R.E.M. classic with an orchestra which includes producer Kurt Bestor. The shots of David were recorded in a studio the day before he left on his mission.

I have to wonder what kind of pain AND inspiration David Archuleta was feeling when he chose to record this song.

Thank you for the wonderful writeup and the good question. I think David chose the songs on BEGIN both for his fans and for himself as the final weeks of his old life sped by and the start of his mission approached. David shares his thoughts about his mission mainly in two videos on theofficialarchuleta Youtube channel. One called It's Not Goodbye was
recorded right before his mission started, and one called A Thought was prerecorded when he was thinking about his mission. He looked forward to him mission and the person he would become, and at the same time he had worries and I think sadness about his siblings growing up without him there, being away from is family and friends as their lives moved on without him, wondering if he would have to start his career over from scratch, and thoughts about what his new life as a missionary would be like and what people would he meet. BEGIN is a beautiful moving album and many people worked hard to help it happen. David's good fans are waiting for him – waiting for DA2014. We'll be here
