Chris Medina - "What Are Words"

Chris Medina auditioned for Season 10 of American Idol. He touched us with the story of his fiancee and him. Recently, he got eliminated from the competition. Now he has a song he worked on with Rodney Jenkins. What Are Words was released on iTunes the day after he got eliminated on the show’s Hollywood week.

Chris was engaged to marry Juliana Ramos, his longtime girlfriend, back in December 2009. Unfortunately, just two months before their wedding, Juliana was involved in a major car accident. The crash left her partially paralyzed and caused traumatic brain injuries. Chris didn’t give up on her and continued on with her, not only as her fiance but also as her caretaker.

What Are Words seem to effectively convey the emotions he has inside for his fiancée. It is a very brave, noble, and loving song. Even taken without Chris and Juliana’s love story, the song still stands as a very good love song that speaks of the promise of one heart made to another. The sincerity in Chris Medina’s voice just makes this a very sad and heartwarming song. My heart just wept when Chris sung this verse: “And I know an angel was sent just for me / And I know I’m meant to be where I am / And I’m gonna be / Standing right beside her tonight.” For me, that was the verse where his emotions fused with his voice.
