Archipelago - "Lumapit"

Archipelago premiered the official music video of their latest single Lumapit last December 7 at Route 196, Katipunan QC. Lumapit is the fifth and final single from the band’s debut album Travel Advisory. NU107 fans will also recall that Lumapit is the last ever #1 song on the NU107 Stairway to Seven chart.

Archipelago is composed of Yan Yuzon (vocals/guitars), Chad Rialp (bass/vocals), and Wendell Garcia (drums). Yan Yuzon is brother to Sponge Cola’s front man Yael Yuzon. But I swear, even before I knew the names of the band members, there were parts in the song that made me feel like Yael is singing this song somewhere.

The verse is solid and interesting enough as it builds up the tension towards the chorus. But I don’t like the chorus. I was never really a fan of repeating lines if nothing else interesting is happening. Or maybe there is something happening that I just didn’t notice. I would rather have the chorus use more words. As it is, the verses seem to be stronger than the chorus, which only gets more interesting near the end when the backup vocals are sung beneath the chorus.

The music, on the other hand, is wonderful. It’s actually the music that got me hooked to Lumapit Ka Sa Akin. The song started catchy enough with the guitars. The song knows when the guitars should be understated and when the guitars should be livelier. Given my grievances about the lyrics, I still think this is a good song to chart in the mainstream top 20s. Watch the music video below.
