Light Years is Amber Davis’s first single under Audioclef Records as she is now promoting her music globally. There is a change not only in Amber’s music but also in her image. And it does sound like it is going well with this new single.

My body can feel the music more than my mind can cope with lyrics. Light Years starts off well, but as it gets to the hook, I feel like I could use a bass boost. There are almost ten seconds after the first hook before the next verse that I’m not particularly fond of. This part almost feels like an outro sending my body a signal to just stop dancing because nothing interesting is happening. This comes as a minor buzzkill when the song has already goaded me to dance. Those ten seconds just seem so long while I wait for the verse to kick in.

But I do love how Amber is taking her music to another level. The vibe sounds ready for the international market, more so than her previous singles. There is a futuristic feel to it. Think Tron going to the disco. Working with producer Mark Davis, Amber is now heading into a more electro-dance direction and this is pretty evident in Light Years. I’m beginning to feel like Amber could become a Kelly Rowland since they both have a very urban R&B background and both still manage to bring this into their more dance-oriented songs.

If you’re in the US, you can download Light Years on iTunes.
