The boys of 1:43 are back with their new song PiNK (Pag-ibig na Kaya?). The single is their second after their Christmas hit Merry Christmas Na.
I am aware that 1:43 has been receiving harsh criticisms since their debut because people think they are a boyband who is trying to ride the K-pop trend in the Philippines. However, as I have also pointed out in their previous song Merry Christmas Na (which by the way has garnered more than 80,000 views on Youtube), they do not sound K-pop at all. And their new song PiNK is again evidence of this.
The new song PiNK is an example of how good Filipino pop can be. This goes beyond my standpoint that at least it’s not a revival. Besides being an original composition, the song is very catchy and the vocal arrangement is lovely. Even the production is not something you would expect from a pop act that started in Youtube.
As I have once said on my twitter account, I wish there were more Filipino artists who are willing to go the pop route. The local music industry has its share of belters, rappers, R&B, and rock acts. But I see a lack of pop acts. Hopefully, 1:43 is a group that will help fill that void.
PiNK also features vocals from Myrus, who will be launched as a singer-songwriter very soon (watch out for him). The music video also features the beautiful Paulene So as the lead female.
The music video was shot in Playa Calatagan, Batangas. Check it out below.
