Now I’m not someone I would call a Kpop fanboy, but man this guy Tae Yang has real talent, although I gotta admit he reminds me of Kris Lawrence.
Tae Yang has previously opened for such big artists as Alicia Keys and Brian McKnight. He is also from Korean boyband Big Bang. Recently, Big Bang’s members have been doing it solo, but I don’t really know if they will be breaking up as a group (I hope not), or if this is just a phase to let each member grow individually.
As of writing, previews of three tracks from “Solar” have been released to the public as teasers for the album’s eventual release on July 1.
1st preview – Solar (Intro)
This track is easy to the ears, very light. And yes, I think I’m ready for Solar.
2nd preview – Superstar
No, I don’t understand the lyrics, but the song starts strong and the beat is very catchy. It reminds me of Usher’s “Caught Up.”
3rd preview – You’re My
This song slows down the tempo. With just the Rhodes piano in the background, the song brings Tae Yang’s vocal prowess into the foreground. I would love to believe that it also puts focus on the lyrics, but I don’t understand Korean, do I? “You’re my ice cream, my sweetest ice cream.” Sounds cheesy, but I hope it will be justified.
Also, 2NE1‘s Dara, more popularly known in the Philippines as Sandara Park, will also be in the music video for “I Need a Girl” (Track #3).
